It's funny what wakes us or allows us to sleep. Your rooster story is the second I heard today. We've never hatched eggs so we often get zero roosters but someone usually offers us one. They are tried and true. Usually gentle boys. Our current boy is Lucky. He often crows before I awake but I soon fall back to sleep glad that he's still with us. What wakes me is Tony , the cat. He paws my face until I get up.

I don't have that awesome luminescence of plankton, but I have blinking fairy lights on my greenhouse that make me think of lightning bugs. It's warm in Seattle, and I'm rooting for rain. Patience, grasshopper, patience. The rain will come - eventually. My neighbors have goats in their backyard that tap-dance on their back porch (it really sounds like that!), but no roosters. But we have too little waterfalls; one in a goldfish pond and the other one in the Gnomegarden - or "Gartenzwerghausen" as I call it. The gnomes are quiet, and the water splashing lulls me to sleep. Maybe that's why the gnomes are quiet? I dunno.......
