"my hope has a sunburn right now" is such an awesome remark that I will quote you on more that once. I'm sitting in Seattle sweating. Yeah, Seattle & sweating don't really jive--at least they didn't use to. You rust here, not sweat. I never thought I'd say "I miss the rain" but, jeez... I do. My oven has been off for a month as well; my Challenger Pan is collecting dust, and Sir Bobby Farts-A-Lot (sourdough starter) is hybernating in the fridge for now. I pan fried old fashioned Oats this morning with garlic, shallot & jalopenoes so I can have some grain with my fried eggs. Eggs without bread is just weird. Or maybe it's me who's weird? I love the potato donuts, but wonder how they come out if I bake them? I'm one of those folks that refuse to eat anything deep fried. I lived in the South before; I've had my share. ;) What do you think? Bake 20 min @ 350F?? I could put them in my toaster oven....that doesn't heat up the house more than necessary.
I'm sure they'll work baked; the ratios remind me of old biscuit recipes, which had very little butter/fat. Modern baked donut recipes seem to have more liquid and rely on donut pans.
Time and temperature is always the question! Starting at 350 sounds good, but I'd look at them sooner, maybe 9-10 minutes in. LMK how it goes!
It worked great! But when I pulled the butter out of the fridge I heard that little voice in the back "not without me!!!" ~ sigh~ so I ended up putting 50g of Sir Bobby in there as well ;) that resulted in very tasty sourdough potato biscuit rolls, that were sweet (1/2 cup sugar was plenty), fluffy, and perfect for breakfast. Toaster oven on 350F / convection setting for 25 min and they were done just right. I also added a 1/4 tsp of Mahaleb (google it! It's a Turkish pastry spice made from cherry seeds).
