Nice work! And thanks for sharing your inspiring notes and prompts. I’ve been journaling on a near-daily basis for the past decade, sketches and scraps and stories and, lately, a micro hot-take on current events in the unlikely event future generations stumble on my notebooks. Maybe a little Anne Frank-ish?
Amie, I love knowing you are keeping a journal! All of this ephemeral stuff — well diaries are kind of ephemeral too but I mean the digital ‘substances’ that account for us now— how our vapors help us in the future? I hardly ever look back at the stuff I occasionally write in my notebooks, but paper has a bigger weight in my life and mind!
congrats on the newspaper piece; its so nice to be able to connect with people that way (and lucky to have a paper to print it)
I've been knee-deep in 19th-century letters lately and they are similarly a window into the mundanity that persists in the face of war, death, and change. 90% of their content is about... writing letters.
also I just read your piece and it is great. We are very like-minded. I assume you've already scoured the censuses for bakers? I'm resisting the urge to do so myself...
Can’t wait to hear about homemade yeast, and how hops are involved. Congrats, Amy!
