Merry Christmas! Here’s what I sent yesterday, with a corrected link.
I made my last round of cookies — six batches this morning — for this year. Or at least I washed the cookie trays, and I am pretending the cookie monster is signing off for the season. But probably I’ll be back in the kitchen pretty quick!
The tree is on the deck, a 20-foot affair we got a few weeks ago. We went to Nick’s, and I described the trip, and the tradition that we keep replaying, in a story that Business Insider ran today.
I’m so thrilled to share this reflection on how traditions are not just repetitions, but patterns we revise to fit our loved ones. It’s a hard lesson to learn — I am tempted to echo what’s happened exactly, but we never can, can we? None of us are ever the same, year to year. How can we expect our celebrations to replay like movies?
I hope you are with loved ones and that your holidays are bright, with shining things or shining reflections, twinkling in your mind’s eye.
Love, Amy
